Russia's Energy Ministry is compiling a national registry of cryptocurrency mining equipment, aiming to curb illegal operations and increase tax revenue. The initiative, developed with the Federal Tax Service and Ministry of Digital Development, will create a centralized database of all mining hardware in the country.

Deputy Energy Minister Petr Konyushenko confirmed draft documents have been sent to regions with significant mining activity. The registry will enable authorities to identify electricity usage for crypto mining, ensuring compliance with regulations. "This is a step toward legalizing the industry and reducing illegal energy consumption," Konyushenko stated.

While legal mining grows in Russia, unauthorized operations remain widespread. Many industrial miners operate with illegal grid connections or exploit subsidized residential power rates. The registry represents Moscow's latest effort to bring transparency to the sector.
